Frequently asked questions

How to...

start using?

First of all, read all safety guidelines and instructions.

1 - Fill your candle lamp using paraffin-based lamp oil. Refer to "How to refill my Candle Lamp".

2 - Screw-in the chimney finger-tight. Do not over-tighten.

3 - Adjust the wick. Refer to "How to adjust the wick"

4 - Let the wick become saturated with lamp oil (about 45 minutes). Alternatively, you can turn the candle lamp upside down until you see the oil seeping out, up to the end of the wick.

adjust the height of the wick?

To prevent smoking and sooting, the top of the wick should be sticking out out of the chimney by 1/8“ to 1/4” (0.3 to 0.6 cm). Although the wick was adjusted before your candle was shipped, you should check it before use:

First, Light the wick. If the the candle lamp smokes or soots, extinguish the flame and cut the wick a bit with scissors.

Repeat the above until you obtain a smokeless, sootless flame.

You are better off cutting the wick a few times than trying to cut it the correct height in one try and ending up cuttin it too short. But if you do cut it too short, pull the wick out of the chimney.

Note that the shorter the wick, the smaller the flame.

The wick is made of fiberglass and does not burn. Typically, its height will not need any further adjustments.

light the candle?

You can light your candle with any type of lighter or match. Try not to tilt the candle but even if you tilt it a bit the fuel will not spill out from the top of the chimney.

General

What are Candles Lamps?

Candle Lamps are clean burning candles that last forever. Both the body of the candle lamp and its fiberglass wick are permanent, the fuel is the only consumable. Because the size of its wick, its flame is bigger and burns brighter than a conventional candle.

Candle Lamps are available in many designs, providing a beautiful alternative to conventional candles.

What material is used to make the candle lamps?

The body of the candle is made of thick, clear glass, with some of its parts overlayed with a copper-based alloy known as nickel silver. This alloy is so named for its silvery appearance, even though it contains no silver, being made up of copper, nickel and zinc. Copper and zinc making it highly resistant to environmental corrosion while nickel gives it its silvery shine. The alloy is also known as german silver and is commonly used in a number of demanding environmental applications (such as marine fittings, plumbing fixtures, equine harness) due to its high resistance to corrosion. Because of its hardness, it is commonly used to make the keys of woodwind instruments and the frets of guitar, banjo and other string instruments.

How often do the wick have to be replaced?

The wicks are made of fiberglass and are not consumed during combustion and will last many years. If you do ever need to replace the wick at one point, refer to "How do I replace the wick".

Are Candle Lamps fragrant?

Candle Lamps are odorless as paraffin oil produces no scent or odor.

Can I use fragrance\essential oil in a Candle Lamp?

No, burning these oils in a candle lamp will destroy the molecules responsible for the odour rather than dispersing them.It could also result in promoting smoking and sooting. In short, these oils are expensive and poor alternative to paraffin oil.

Can I burn my Candle Lamps outdoors?

Yes, You can use your candle lamp outdoors. However, as with any candle, be aware that the wind and weather will affect its flame. We recommend that you use your candles outdoors in hurricanes or lanterns for the best results.

How long should I wait to touch the chimney after the flame of the candle is extinguish?

The top of the chimney nearest to the flame is the hottest part of the candle. Once the flame extinguish, its will cool to room temperature in 3-4 minutes.

How long does a Candle Lamp last between refill?

Candle lamps consume approximately 1/3 ounces (10 ml.) of paraffin oil per hour:

La Papoux is 100 ml. and will burn approximately 10 hours,

La Percy is 150 ml. and will burn approximately 15 hours,

Strauss is 200 ml. and will burn approximately 20 hours,

Georgies is 220 ml. and will burn approximately 22 hour

Where can I buy liquid paraffin oil?

Liquid paraffin oil is available in a variety of stores, most notably in hardware stores. It is also widely available on the internet.

Safety

Basic candle safety rules

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission suggests that 85 percent of candle fires could be avoided if consumers followed three basic safety rules:

(1) Never leave a burning candle unattended.

(2) Extinguish all candles when leaving a room or before going to sleep. Be sure the wick ember is no longer glowing.

(3) Never burn a candle on or near anything that might catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.

(4) Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.

Use and safety instructions

We are committed to the safety of our products and their users. However, at the end of the day, you, the user of our products, are responsible to ensure that they are used in a safe way.

By avoiding the common hazards associated with wax candles because they don’t burn down, don't drip, gutter, explode or throw burning cinders, Candle Lamps are one of the safest natural flame candles. However, they do have a real flame. Please read carefully and abide by the following:

Danger Poison - Especially to children.

Content Harmful – Paraffin-based lamp oil. Do not swallow. Do not induce vomiting if ingested. Call your local poison center or emergency center.

Warning - Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Choking Hazard - May contain small parts. This is not a toy.

Caution - Do not use on or near anything that can catch fire.

Use on a level, fire resistant surface.

Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Always burn in a well-ventilated room.

Never use a candle as a night light.

Never move a burning candle, always snuff it out first.

Be very careful if using our products during a power outage. Flashlights and other battery-powered lights are safer sources of light during a power failure. Candle lamps are designed to create ambiance and should not be used as a light source during power-outage.

What follows are reminders, although not an exhaustive list, of safety measures you should be aware of. They are not substitutes for your own caution, care, good judgment and common sense.

Always keep a burning candle within sight. Extinguish all candles when leaving a room or before going to sleep.

Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.

Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. Do not place lighted candles where they can be knocked over by children, pets or anyone else.

Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, ceiling fans and air currents. This will help prevent rapid, uneven burning, and avoid flame flare-ups and sooting. Drafts can also blow lightweight curtains or papers into the flame where they could catch fire.

Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room.

Don't burn too many candles in a small room or in a "tight" home where air exchange is limited.

Be very careful if using candles during a power outage. Flashlights and other battery-powered lights are safer sources of light during a power failure. Never use a candle during a power outage to look for things in a closet, or when fueling equipment - such as a lantern or kerosene heater.

Make sure a candle is completely extinguished and the wick ember is no longer glowing before leaving the room.

Never use a candle as a night light.

How flammable is liquid paraffin oil?

Liquid paraffin oil is considered non flammable, needing a temperature of over 390F (200C) to ignite. This is the lowest temperature required to supply the energy needed for combustion. It also has a high flash point (over 212F - 100C). This the lowest temperature at which its vapors could ignite when given an ignition source.

Typically, it will ignites when vaporized on a wick but will not catch fire alone.

What happens if I knock over a candle lamp?

The chimney of candle lamps is threaded into the body of the candle. Most probably f they are knocked over the flame will extinguish and only a small amount of paraffin oil will seep out the chimney.

Even if the chimney and\or the body of the candle is shattered and paraffin oil is spilled and contacting the flame would not results in a fire. Similar to oilve ol, you would have a diificult time trying to light a pool paraffin oil. It need a wick to vaporize it.

Is liquid paraffin oil toxic?

Paraffin oil is a petroleum-based product and, as all such products, may be fatal if it enters airways. Aspiration into the lungs can result in severe breathing difficulty and pneumonia. ENSURE THAT IT IS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES! If not, we would rather avert a potential tragedy than make a sale.

Paraffin oil is poorly absorbed by the intestines and does not present an ingestion danger.

If someone does swallow paraffin oil:

Do not induce vomiting to limit the risk of aspiration.

Rinse out mouth and call for medical help immediately.

Generally paraffin oil is not a skin irritant, though prolonged exposure may cause some drying. Wash with water and soap and rinse thoroughly. If you notice skin irritation, consult a doctor.

Generally paraffin oil is not an eye irritant· After eye contact, rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water (after removing contact lenses if worn). If you have any eye irritation, consult a doctor.

Manufacturers of liquid paraffin oilare required to provide Material Safety Data Sheet on demand.
